Blue/German Chamomile
Blue Chamomile is also called German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). The blue color of this essential oil comes from the chamazulene during the distillation process. Chamazulene is what gives this oil its anti-inflammatory properties. Blue oils will get the best shelf life when they are refrigerated. When the oil starts turning green, that means the anti-inflammatory properties are not as strong anymore.

Essential Oil Constituent Classes
In general, pure essential oils can be subdivided into two distinct groups of chemical constituents; the hydrocarbonswhich are made up almost exclusively of terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes), and the oxygenated compounds which ar mainly esters, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenols, and oxides. Terpenes - inhibit the accumulation of toxins and help discharge existing toxins from the liver and kidneys. Sesquiterpenes are antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.

Carrier Oils, and why do we need them? Well, carrier oils are used for safe topical use of essential oils. With hot oils it protects the skin from burning. Using carrier oils is also a great way to extend your essential oils.
